I discussed some of these very issues in my post about Sounder -- although I must admit, not having read Sour Land, that I did not know that Moses specifically refers to his childhood dog as Sounder.
Thank you for posting this link! I didn't know the boy's name was Moses, and I totally agree with some of the issues the book's critics had. It didn't feel like a children's book to me, either, so it makes more sense now that I know it wasn't written to be!
